This is the point at which the player established his pivot foot. Unless the rule has changed in the last two years, technically (admittedly, VERY technically), the player did not have a pivot foot...

A first for me

A couple days ago at a USAV event, I'm on the stand and I look at the libero as he enters the court for the first time and there's something dark hanging over the neckline of his jersey. I couldn't...

I hope it doesn't filter down. I like the mirroring of the R1's signals. I think there are times it can help the scorer, as well.

To be totally honest, I haven't dug into the rulebook to research this situation, but as I said in above, my mentor (who has made it to the NCAA Final Four a couple years ago) told me to whistle and...

Volleyball is not basketball. Call it, even after the play has concluded and the attacking player goes to set up in the back row.

A&M played some amazing volleyball. The reverse sweep of Louisville was unbelievable. If anything, the final was anti-climactic. They were fantastic and, I agree, they are worthy champions.

Yes. That's it, exactly.

It is legal for either official to whistle to acknowledge the sub request at this point. So, as R1, I should've blown my whistle to recognize the sub in the sub zone and...

They came to the zone after the whistle for serve. Because it was in a convention center, maybe they didn't hear the whistle -- I'm not sure. If I were a better ref, I might have remembered that...

Yes, and yes.

Right. But by doing that, I'm most likely gifting the serving team a point.

This is actually what I did.

The reason I did it this way is because during my women's season, I...

Sub request during serve

So I was R2 at a club event this past weekend. R1 beckons for serve and then a player for the receiving team enters the sub zone and the player he's replacing comes to the sideline to sub out. The...

Not in my game. A dribble begins when a player IN CONTROL pushes or throws the ball to the floor. The initial bat of the ball was made prior to any control by the player, so is not a dribble.

USAV rules test

Taking my rule exam online and would love a rule citation for question 33.

Essentially, the R2 provides incorrect information to the coach, stating that the coach has 2 subs left. The coach makes...

I disagree with your DoD. The fact that you can tell them apart does not mean that they are contrasting. Black and gray are not contrasting, for example, even though you can almost certainly tell...

Kansas/Utah, 11/19

The Kansas Libero's jersey was "Kansas blue" and the regular jerseys were "Carolina blue". Can I tell them apart? Yes. Are they contrasting? Not by a longshot. It bugs me slightly (slightly more...

Libero mistakenly leaves the court

Libero is on the court in back-left position. When her team wins the rally, they rotate, the middle comes on the court and Libero leaves the court through the replacement zone. Then her coach...

Artificial noisemaker. In basketball, there's a case play (or, there used to be) that specifies a cheerleader can use a megaphone to yell through, but can't use it to bang on the bleachers.

Net fault questions

I would appreciate a breakdown of the differences in how this is called in the 3 rulesets: FED, NCAA, USAV.

The served ball contacts the net outside the antenna on the R2's side of the court.

No way I'm rescinding the subs.

I'd allow them to sub back out, if there was no delay in realizing it.

If Team A was out of rotation, then I do think you could call the out of rotation, but...

My partner tonight insisted that the NFHS has changed their jewelry rules to match NCAA (allowing snug hoops). I admittedly am not as good with FED rules as NCAA, but I don't see a jewelry change in...

Releasing starters to media

I know the rule on this, but I can't find it in the book. Where does it say what information we can and we can't give out to media/announcers?
