Sub limits

ASA. Starter 1 starts and is batting 10th. Sub 1 comes in in the 3rd inning and replaces starter 1 (starter 1 is out of the game and sub 1 is now batting 10th). Can a second sub (Sub 2) replace...

Dropped Infield Fly

ASA. Cannot find anything in the rulebook about this.

Are the runners required to tag their base on a dropped IFF? One side of the discussion says the rules of a caught flyball apply whether or...

Batting out of order

R1 on 2nd, R2 on 1st. Wrong batter hits a single. R1 scores, R2 on 2nd, BR on 1st. Before next pitch, it's discovered that BR is wrong.

7.2.D.2b EFFECT (a) The player who should have batted is...

I appreciate everyone's response. I'm not a lawyer; I'm just trying to understand the rule as it is written. After re-reading that sentence, it still doesn't make sense to me. It would be better...

EXACTLY! On any other flyball, the runners do not have to retouch their base after the ball is touched (and dropped) by the fielder. But in the case of the IFF, they do. Otherwise, why would MLB...

Thank you. Is this in the rulebook?

At mlb.com, they define it this way:
"An INFIELD FLY is a fair fly ball (not including a line drive nor an attempted bunt) which can be caught by an infielder...

Infield Fly Rule

[ASA Mens Slow Pitch] Infield Fly is correctly called by the umpire. The runners take a few steps off their bases and the flyball is dropped. Do the runners have to return to their base before...

It does make sense. The IFF call could influence how the fielder plays the ball, and that could, in turn, influence what the runners do. In this case, it didn't matter, but to say the "argument...

It got a little crazy. Pop up to 3B, ball dropped, ball thrown to 1B, tagged the base (no tag on either runner), runners on 1B and 3B hesitated then advanced at the same time on the throw, ball is...

Incorrect infield fly rule called

Runners on 1st and 3rd. Batter hits an infield fly. Umpire calls "INFIELD FLY, BATTER IS OUT." Infielder drops the flyball. Complete confusion going on because nobody knows what's a force out and...

Rules regarding slow-pitch with stealing

The rulebook seems a little light on the specifics of the stealing rule for adult SP.

1. If you leave too early, are you out?
2. If you leave too early and a pitched ball hits the ground in front...

It was a routine stand-up double, then the ump called the BR out. I said "WTF?? What could POSSIBLY have happened?"

It's a mens league (18+ years old) with new umpires, not really young, and not...

Yeah. I couldn't believe it. It wasn't even our game -- it was the previous game. So before our game started, I asked the umpire about it because I didn't want our team to be a victim. Crazy!

Once both teams hit 3 HRs, any team can hit one more to be "1 up" over the other team (4 HRs to 3). Then the other team can hit up to 2 HRs to be "1 up" again (5 HRs to 4). "1 up" means that...

Is BR out?

The batter hit a deep fly ball to the outfield and dropped the bat into fair territory. While the batted ball was in the outfield, the on-deck batter moved the bat out of play. The umpires ruled...

Definition of "possession of the ball"

BR hits a routine infield groundball, the fielder fields it and short-hops it to F3. The ball gets lodged between F3's body and elbow before BR touches first base. The play is too quick for F3 to...

Unless F3 had a play at home, I would rule the run counts and the BR is out. If F3 had a play at home had there been no interference, the runner and BR are both out.

I agree. F3 knows the BR is coming. On every batted ball hit fair, F3 needs to deal with the BR, so standing there on 1B is deliberate. "Daydreaming" will draw the OBS call every time in my book.

Touching bases in legal order

R1 at 1st. Batter hits a triple, touches 1st and 2nd and stands on 3rd. R1 misses 2nd, touches 3rd, and slides into home on a play where the ball goes out-of-play. The defense is screaming that R1...
