Just want to get some different views of catcher obstruction at home plate, runner coming in. I've always read the NFHS rule to be if the catcher is making a play at home on a runner but does NOT have the ball yet and is in the base path, she is obstructing the runner. If she has the ball in her possession however it is NOT obstruction and can complete the tag out. I've heard it said then as well if the ball is close to the catcher on a throw in (i.e.- bouncing in about 10 feet in front of her ) and she is hit by the runner it is Interference on the runner. It seems to me by reading the rule, and how I have always called it...is plain and simple; as long as she does NOT have the ball in her possession there is no Interference if hit by the runner. Sometimes we go round and round about what call to make. Some say as long as the ball is close and she is making a play, it's Interference. Just want to get some opinions about how you'all call it.
    Thanks.
