Defender in front of goal has the head of stick fly off. Play is in his area. I stopped play immediatley for safety reasons, even though he didn't try to check anyone. Coach said I should have let play go on, player had option to run off or get another stick. If he tried to play I could have thrown flag, stop play and give 30 second penalty.

I was relying on rule 1-22, note, which says if player loses any required equipment in scrimmage area, stop play immediately. Who is correct?

proper call on your part

Variation on a theme, and one that made its way around MALOA recently. Player loses head from stick, runs to get it, reattaches it by shoving it back on the stick, picks up ball, throws ball, head comes off, picks up head, puts it back on stick and then is substituted off the field for stick repair. Apparently in none of these situations was the player in the midst of the play when the head was off the stick. Coach of other team getting more apoplectic with each loss of the head. As I recall the thread, the view of the senior officials was that the official properly made no call.
