Hi,

I recently attended a hockey camp where I was instructed that it is a better mechanic to "face the play" when working the lines rather than keeping my butt against the boards. So I went on the ice in my evaluation game and tried just that. However, I was told after the game that I needed to face the play. *sigh*

Does anybody have any advice on how to face the play? Any things to key in on or be aware of?

Face the puck. Its that simple.

When the puck is on your side of the ice, you are perpendicular to the boards. As the puck moves to the other side of the ice, you're turning until you hit parallel.

Not much more to it thatn that.

I thought I was doing that. But maybe it's such a habit to stand a certain way that I really wasn't. I really need somebody to videotape me on the ice so I can see what I'm doing objectively and clean myself up. ;o)

Really focus on making sure your whole body moves...not just your head.

I used to stand with my butt to the boards too, and it does take a bit of concentration to get into moving your body.
