Inappropriate Assigner/Referee relationship
 

Looking for advice on what to do about an assigner that is having an affair with one of their referees. Is there any code of ethics for assigners that touches on inappropriate relations? Should I notify the board that designates the assigner? What potential issues are their for this referee?

I don't know and don't want to know why you feel the assignor/referee relationship is inappropriate. I would bring the situation to the governing board's attention and let them decide the proper action or no action.

For many years, our assignor and her husband were umpires in our chapter. Our assigning secretary is an elected position and the membership had no problems with them being married. For four years, the husband was chapter president and there were no problems.

It would be up to the board involved to deal out any disciplinary action against either the official or assignor.To me as long as the official is being treated the same when it comes to assignments-whether regular season or postseason I'm fine.

Are you going to discuss every personal relationship that someone might have with someone that assigns something? Now unless the assignor is giving games out unethically, I really think this is not for public consumption or discussion. We have a lot of personal relationships. I know someone that assigns that married another official that gets games. No one says anything about it or seems to care. Their relationship does not hurt or change anything I have gotten or done.
