What are some of the way for someone to get into officiating? I have been thinking for the past five years of getting involved, but I have been moving around a lot. Now that I am in a position that I will be living in the same place for a long time, I was hoping to start doing it. What would you guys suggest?

Thanks.

Try checking online for your state's high school athletic association.

If you want to do a spring sport--like lacrosse--you should start contacting people right away. You can call the state HS association or the national association for the sport (e.g., USLacrosse) for info on training, or you can even call a local high school athletic department and ask them who they contact to get officials.

Then study the rules, attend training, buy your gear, and you're good to go.

Depending where you live, you might start out doing youth games or you might do HS varsity games your first year. It's easier to start out doing youth games if you have a choice.

Even easier than trying to track down the state office is to simply call your nearest HS and ask for the AD's office. Ask him/her for the contact number of an official or assignor in the sport you're interested in. Good luck.
