Rich Sat Jan 15, 2005 11:22am

I worked a high school game last night. Boys varsity. On my way up there, my wife calls -- turns out the doctors wanted her to come to the hospital to (potentially) induce labor.

My wife, who understands the officiating illness as best as anyone, tells me to go work the game. It's 80 miles away.

So we do. Game finished in 1:15. Call my wife. They're definitely inducing labor, but not for a while. She tells me to grab dinner on my way. I do, along with a BIG beer.

Even though they started this process nine hours ago, they don't think the baby will be coming until tonight.

I found a replacement for tonight's game. And Monday's. Even I know my true prioities.

Rich - early congratulations. Hope everything comes out all right (pun intended). One comment - you didn't drive after chugging that beer, did you?

Hell no, I was dropped at the hospital by my partner. Now I'm heading back.

Hey Rich....

Congratulations and Good Luck with the young'n. Is this your first? Honig's has those little ref shirts....

Your wife is a real sport....all the best to her....keep us posted!

My wife was 2 months past her due date with our first, 27 years ago....finally got tired of waiting anymore so we went to a Marquette/Wisconsin Badger BB game at the field house and jumped up and down with the band. Worked like a charm. Eric was born the next day! :o

Best wishes to you and your family! :D

What is the proper term for a baby zebra?

(It's a colt or a foal)

rainmaker Sat Jan 15, 2005 03:13pm

Rich -- Best wishes for an uneventful birth. Hope the little one has good lungs so he/she can follow in your footsteps!

too bad we can't have a ZebraZone channel -- replay any game any of us has ever done that's been telecast.

All Stripes!! All the time!!

Still no baby. Inducing labor is a long process, it seems. Was sent home for a few hours sleep and a shower -- they're going to try again in the morning.

And if my wife tells me to work the game it's because she wants me to. If she wanted me to come right away or if she thought I needed to, she would've said so -- and I would've in a heartbeat.

Off to bed.

He better! He won't be sleeping for a few months once the baby comes.

I know what that's like. My wife and I just brought home our second. A bouncing baby beagle!! He's worse than a baby. :(

Best of everything, Rich.

Her understanding might be, "Good riddance!"

TimTaylor Mon Jan 17, 2005 01:12pm

Hang in there Rich.....

I'm assuming this is your first - they can take awhile sometimes. I remember our first - took my wife in at 2pm for an NST - she started labor during the test & #1 child didn't finally appear until 6am the following morning.

Keep us posted.....

Rich Mon Jan 17, 2005 03:03pm

Casey Lauren Fronheiser came into the world at 9:27PM last night. She is a healthy girl at 7 lbs. 7 oz. and 19 inches long.

I’ll post a link once I have pictures up on the web. She has my eyes and hopefully everything else comes from Michele, who’s resting comfortably after a very long weekend.

PS -- I've turned back all my games this week :)

Congratulations, Rich. As a father of two daughters, I can tell you you're going to have a lot of fun :)

davidw Mon Jan 17, 2005 06:40pm

Congratualation, Dad! A girl how fantastic! We (my lovely wife and I) had 6 of that variety. They are certainly wonderful, and for me, have contributed to an increase in patience that has--I think--carried over onto the 'floor' during my games.;) Goodluck and best wishes to each of you!

rainmaker Mon Jan 17, 2005 06:55pm

Rich, Michelle and Casey; Many blessings on you. May you each work hard every day to give as much love as you receive, and may it overflow to all those around you.

ChuckElias Mon Jan 17, 2005 09:25pm

Congrats, Rich. Best of everything to the whole family.

This zombie thread is awesome. My daughter is 8, played 2 seasons so far. I can relate. She still asks me why I don't umpire her games. :)

Nice work Rich and Casey!
