Assigning software/platform

I'm taking over umpire assigning duties for our youth rec baseball league, and I'm looking to assigning software/platforms for the spring. We have about 50-70 umpires and probably 400-500 games for the year. Obviously we'd like to keep costs down, but still want basic features like ability tracking, multiple assignors, etc. As an official, the assignors I've worked for have used Arbiter and GameOfficials, but again, those seem a bit pricey. I'm looking at assignr.com and horizonwebref.com, which are web based platforms that seem to have a nice balance of features and price. Anyone use these or have any other suggestions that I should look into?

reftown bluezebra

From an officials standpoint, horizonwebref and reftown are superior to arbiter and bluezebra. (I can't comment on them from an assigner's standpoint)

How much do the different assigning services cost? I have no idea, because Arbiter is covered by my HS association dues, and I only pay extra for ArbiterConnected (the mobile notification service and access to Arbiter from a mobile device).

Usually $3-6 per official/year, with extra costs for things like direct deposit and text messaging.

Thanks Bob, glad to hear horizon is liked, it does seem like a good deal.

Hey Chris,

We (the same guys who host this forum) run Assignr and do think it's one of the easiest-to-use, simplest solutions for officials and assigners.

Arbiter's per official cost is based on the number of officials. There are additional fees for multiple assigners, using the payroll function ect. A large portion of the fee is paid by my state, but I think I pay $7 per official before my discount.
