Okay Highschool game Team A has the ball first and goal on the eight but gets called for a clip so they back in up to the 23. On third down the Qb runs for 7 yds and then is facemasked by Team B on the tackle. Personal Foul Face mask so the officials mark half the distance to goal and it;s third down again. Is this correct, I though any personel foul was a automatic firstdown.

Remember, last season, all face mask fouls were 15 yards. They were not auto-first down fouls.
This year NFHS has the 5 yard foul or a 15 yard foul. Still not auto-first down fouls.
The only reason for the PF/FM (s38-s45) combination of referee signals is to show which type of foul is being administered.

Nope. There are only a handful of auto-first down in the NFHS code.
1. DPI
2. Roughing the passer
3. Roughing the Kicker/holder
4. Roughing the snapper

Only #4 uses the personal foul(s38) signal.

Theisey is correct. Those are the only fouls which bring an automatic first down.
