NFHS player during conference.

Question: Under the NFHS definition of a player, does a player continue to be a player during an authorized conference? I believe he does, thus he is not allowed to use headsets or other unauthorized equipment. Also, the substitution rules also apply during the authorized conference.

Please confirm if my understanding is correct on both of these.

Mike, you are correct about “Player” use of headsets or other unauthorized equipment during an authorized conference and 1-5-3b confirms this. I learned this the hard way. I didn't pay attention to the “player” status when I marked my answer to this question on this year’s test. As far as your concern about substitutes, maybe 3-7-4 will help “ During the same dead ball interval, no substitute shall become a player and then withdraw and no player shall withdraw and re-enter as a substitute, unless a penalty is accepted, a dead ball foul occurs, there is a charged time-out or the period ends.”

Yes, the 11 players in the huddle are "players."
