Does PSK apply where the K1 punts the ball past the neutral zone, it is blocked back to him, and he punts again? In short, does PSK apply to BOTH kicks?

Can't wait to hear the NF official response on this one. Looks like another rule change oversite.

I've got a good feel as how it should be handled, but I'm sure it's not what the NF will say is the way.

There is nothing in the rules to indicate that PSK would not apply to both kicks. Therefore, it would.

smiley, just a thought in order for a kick to be considered under psk it must end beyond the ENZ, since the kick came behind the ENZ before it was kicked again the first kick would not fall under PSK.....

Smiley Thu Aug 28, 2003 10:02am

It would in SC.

I would agree with cmatthews because the first kick did not meet all of the criteria of PSK because the kick ended behind the neutral zone 2-16-2.

I think a bigger question on this play would be if whoever on K recovered the kick tries to advance instead of kick and didn't make the line to gain what your ruling might be. Did R block the kick and was he beyond the ENZ? Did the ball hit K of R inside the ENZ? There is nothing to restrict a player from kicking the ball 20 times during a down as long as they are all legal kicks.

Smiley, why in SC would it fall under PSK? I understand states interpreting the double foul thing as they see fit, but if the kick doesn't meet the criteria, IE ends behind the nz then it isn't PSK...just curious

Because that's what our state commissioner has said. He has also said that PSK applies to fouls that occur beginning at the snap.
