Has anyone received any information through their state interpretors regarding a Face Painting directive from NF?

About two weeks ago at my sections rules interpretation meeting it was stated that for the 2004 season there will be a rule prohibiting all forms of face painting. Only a reasonable amount of eye black or those no glare strips will be permitted.

This ruling will take effect here for 2003. No foul will be assesed, but a player will not be permitted to take the field if wearing face paint. The problem should be taken care off during the R/U coaches conference prior to the start of the game.

They've done it in basketball and volleyball, so it wouldn't be a surprise. But we haven't heard it yet.

Remember the U is the final authority on the legality of the uniform and equipment.

Ed, we're not talking painting that may be considered to be in bad taste or intimidating. No painting at all.

Hasn't your NY football chapter heard about this?

My chapter is a bit slow.

This came up at a meeting several years ago and the consensus was leave it to the U to decide what is appropriate.

I told my U face painting was not part of the game!

What if you find a player that has the brains, I use the word quite loosely, of Mike Tyson by placing a tattoo on there face?

This is new from our (NY) state interpretor for this year. No painting of any kind on the face.
Your Umpire really does not have to make any decision other than to say remove it or sit on the bench.
Tattoos were not addressed.
