TX / OR Alamo Bowl

Right before the field goal attempt with about 2:00 left in the third, the third down fumble by Oregon. Looks like a FM but I think he grabbed the top of the helmet.

Does it matter, or should that have been flagged?

If the defense didn't grab the FM or helmet opening, it's legal.

Sorry, I wasn't that clear. It looked to me like he grabbed at least the helmet opening above the face mask.

Actually, there's only two possible answers to your question, which both take you to the same place;

1. The covering official, didn't see the defensive player grab the helmet opening above the face mask, or

2. The covering official did see where that hand was, and concluded it did NOT grab the helmet opening above the face mask.

That's what I was wondering, thanks.
