Substitution Infraction?
A first and goal at the B 5 yard line. B sends in a late sub. The replaced player goes off on hi sideline but doesn't make it to his team box. Is this a foul?

Technically, yes.
Realistically, I hope not. |

Thanks for the replies. The play in question happened on an extra point attempt with a 5 man crew. Late sub enters for the defense, and the replaced player left immediately and appeared to be off of the field before the snap (player was leaving to the LJ side who was under goalposts), but did not make it anywhere near the team box before the snap. Nothing was ever said about it from the opposing coach, it was just a question that came up after the game. So, technically, the replaced player must be inside the team box before the snap?

I think, at most, you'd have a sideline warning (going off the top of my head), and keep in mind, I'm relatively new. I can't imagine considering this illegal sub, but I could be wrong.

Being out of the team box, during normal circumstances, is not a foul - it's a "Coach - get your guys back". Only if they either ignore you or interfere with something would this ever elevate to be something you'd flag.
