Legal Block (Video)

BBW or legal?

I want some opinions about this block from the running back. Of course this is NF Rules I need a ruling from.

It is the first two angles of the play and white #33 is the "accused."

This was asked by someone associated with the school.

Peace

Legal Block

The initial contact by A33 against B35 was at the waist or above and in continuation the contact is below the waist. By rule, this block is legal.

Reference: 8.3.2 SITUATION D

That one wouldn't even cause a twitch in my flag-throwing hand. Legal block.

Pass. Looks like initial contact could have started up around the shoulders from the EZ view.

Aside from a possible instructional value relating to future calls, the only thing that matters is how this particular call was made on the field, at the time.

There is absolutely no doubt that film views of what is recorded on the field, very often, provide a better view than may have been available on the field, during the game. What may be seen on a filmed review can very likely provide a different perspective than what was observed by the covering official who made a call, one way or the other.

As far as any particular call, being reviewed after the fact, the relevant rule, that at times can produce a harsh reality is NF: 1.1.11 ""Protests of NFHS rules are not recognized".

How you answer such a question may relate directly to why it was asked. Explaining the rule is always a good idea, debating a call already make is likely to be a road to nowhere, because the answer has long been established and will not change.

Obviously the call was made. But this is why video is valuable. It allows people to review what they saw or learn from what others called. This happened to be a "fan" that brought this to my attention and with the video it allows everyone to learn. Full discloser, I was convinced it was a foul based on the newer interpretation. But after seeing it over and over and talking to other officials, this is clearly legal. This was not my game and I am not trying to throw the crew under the bus, just want to learn from this play. I often do not get to see these plays from the perspective of a wing, so I might have thrown the flag from the first angle. Now seeing this I learned I must see the entire play more than I realized previously.

Peace

I think it is a legal block.
