PLease help to clarify for me. I can not seem to make it make sense to me: NF Case book; PG 47, rule 7.1.33 SNap Infraction:
situation....blah blah blah Ruling: Blah blah blah....The covering official will sound his whistle and the ball remains dead. A snap infraction is a dead ball foul and the penality of 5 yards is administered from the SUCCEEDING SPOT. ?????

How can you have a succeeding spot if the ball reamined dead and never became alive? Isn't succeeding spot the next spot.....the spot after the play happened??

Thanks!

The succeeding spot is the spot where the ball will be snapped or kicked next (2-40-10).

The succeeding spot on the play in question is where the ball is located. The wording of the rule states, move the ball 5 yards from where it is now -- the succeeding spot.

Talking Correct.

Succeeding spot is where the ball will next become live by a LEGAL snap or LEGAL free kick.

The ball remains dead because of the illegal snap. The succeeding spot remains the same because the ball has not yet been legally put into play.

Previous spot enforcement is only if the ball has been legally put into play (fouls at the snap, loose ball fouls, etc.).

Football rules are one of those areas that English majors and lawyers love...
