Little rough, I mean the 15 yard unsportsmanlike against the coach for being improperly equipped wasn't enough? Send the kid off, mark off 15, and if he replaces the illegal cleats, then we're good to go. Sounds to me as if there is more to this.

You all do know that's what the plastic notch in the game card is for.

The notch is the absence of plastic. So then how could the notch be plastic?

If he doesn't say it, I will.

Word is that the rule in Oregon mandates that the player is DQ'd.

He'll, what's the penalty for an ineligible player? Death by hanging?

Very harsh.

However, it's the coach's job to know the rule. They make all kinds of things that are illegal. that doesn't mean you allow kids to wear them.

I don't see in there where they get to suspend him for an additional game in their ruling. I hate the letigious society we've become but as a parent, I'd be pretty po'd for my kid to be suspended for a subsequent game when the prescribed penalty is ejection "for the remainder of the contest". The subsequent punishment smacks of NASCAR where the rules change weekly.

I agree. I'm also pretty sure most of these coaches when asked if they are legally equipped put as much thought into the answer as when I ask my son if he's finished his homework. The penalty for that can be pretty severe!

Tough lesson to learn.

It's true.

There is no penalty if illegal cleats are discovered during pre-game warm-ups, however, the
player may not participate until he/she gets legal cleats. When illegal cleats are discovered
during the game, ALL offending players SHALL be ejected for the remainder of that contest.
That’s an Oregon-Only rules modification of NFHS rules and also an OSAA Executive Board
policy.
