Saw the UNC-Duke game, really thought the contact was accidental. Whether it has to be penalized under NCAA rules, I do not know.

On the 10-second subtraction, the referee is suspended for getting it right eventually. I think that's a shame.

Wonder if I can get the kid that ran into me accidentally and scraped my nose suspended?

The ACC sure likes to suspend football officials.

Both of those teams sure look funny in football gear.

Even if it's not 15 for PF or USC ... it's surely 5. How could they have no foul.

I'd treat him as a player and apply 7-1-5.

ARTICLE 5. The defensive team requirements are as follows:
a. Each of the following (1-5) is a dead ball foul. Officials should blow the
whistle and not allow the play to continue. After the ball is ready for play
and before the ball is snapped:

1. No player may touch the ball except when moved illegally as in Rule
7-1-3-a-1, nor may any player contact an opponent or in any other way
interfere with him.
(A.R. 7-1-5-I-II).

Looking at this play again, I'd have a minimum dead ball personal foul. I think a flagrant foul could be ocnsidered here.

Is he a player before he notifies the player he's replacing (or meets the other criteria for being a player)?

I don't think defense offside with contact applies here. I also don't think he meets the definition of player here, either.

IOW, I think it's 15 or nothing.
