OPI on 4th Down
4th down and there is an offensive pass interference penalty. Do you march off the 15 yards then give the ball to the defense?
|
OPI has loss of down?
It's either first and 10 for B at the previous spot, or 4th and what it was +15 yards for OPI for team A. Or am I missing something here? |

15 yard peanlty, the loss of down results in the down not being replayed. 1st down for B. |
wait... I'm talking NCAA/IFAF, sorry
|
NCAA took out the loss of down from this decades ago.
|
All LOD means is the loss of the opportunity to repeat the same down after the penalty. So if it is 4th down and the line to gain is not achieved, then you give the ball to the defense/receiving team.

When I train officials with a similar phrase, it helps make it clearer what the next down is for those certain fouls that carry the "LOD". |

OPI is 15 yards (unrestricted) and repeat the down. 15 yards and a potential turnover is too much, imho. |

Basically the FIFA/FIBA of American football. |
There you go...
Here in Brasil, games are played under IFAF rules and back when that started to happen I was told IFAF used NCAA OF year before Ex 2012 used 2011 NCAA rules |

the 15 yard penalty is enforced from the previous spot, and you award Team B a new series. 1st and 10 for Team B
