Free kick > K advancing the ball

K kicks the ball beyond the LOS where R1 muffs an attempt to catch the ball (no possession) OR the ball bounces and hits R1 in the leg. The ball is scooped by a member of K and advanced. Does the play end where K first touched or can K advance?

K cannot advance a free kick (or scrimmage kick, for that matter), muffed or unmuffed.

So, according to the 2011-2012 Handbook:

When R is the first to touch a scrimmage kick beyond the expanded neutral zone, the act has the following effect:

1. K may recover and maintain possession

since a muff is considered touching, correct?

Neither. The ball is dead where first possessed by K.

There's no such thing as a LOS during a free kick.

Are you asking about free kicks or scrimmage kicks?

The only kick K can advance is a scrimmage kick recovered in/behind the NZ. All others are dead when possessed.

That depends on where K recovers the ball.

Yeah. Had to assume certain things from the description, didn't think I'd have to cover the possibility it bounced back to the neutral zone or K's side.
