The game which I called this week was an emotionally intense one not only on the field but also among the fans. Our Refeere had to stop the game to get the game administration involved to deal with some fans making threats to the officials.

When the game was over we had to go through the middle of the fans to get to our dressing room. There was no security at the game, not even an escort provided by the home team. The fans were in our faces yelling and screaming at us. I bumped into one trying to get out of the gate, that's how close they were.

What should an offical do when he is hung out to dry like that? Any advice?

Todd,

In NC, school administrators are required to provide security for officials at varsity games. Those who don't are fined. I don't know if your state has a similiar policy, but the incident should still be reported to your state office and your local association.

I'll second that! Write a report to your state association immediately. Include all the details, including what happened in the game to make the fans so unruly.
