Could you guys give me some info. on game fees for night Varsity games? Southern section in Calif. pays $52.00 for white hat and the rest $50.00. We feel we ned a raise. Thanks, Larry......... |
In Minnesota all officials get the same amount, usually $54. However, some schools pay $55.
No bonus for wearing the white hat. |
Also I need to know if your association have a five or four man crew for varsity and three man or four man for afternoon games. Also, are your afternoon games timed by the new timing rules or by the old rules. Thanks.......Larry
|
Aj........The reason why here in So.Cal. that afternoon games are run by the old clock is because the average game is fifteen minutes longer and with the traffic here at five thirty (3:00 starting time of game), it is difficult to get to Varsity game at night that starts at seven. For security reasons, games here ( about almost two hundred at night ) ends at nine-thirty. The state office felt it was better to use the old rules of timing and have the games end around five so if yo have a night game, you can be at the site early or pre-game. Thanks for the info, I will pass it on to our association.......Larry Gonski

In Texas we get paid according to the gate receipts for the game. The minimum is about $35, but on an average Friday night we will get between $60-$100. The schools also pay 2 mileages, @$.28 per mile round trip.

Mr. Gonski,
Most conferences in Minnesota now pay for 5 officials for varsity high school games. That is new this year. Last year MN had mostly 4 man crews. MN pays $54 to $55 for each official on both 4 man and 5 man crews. Underclassman games vary a little bit from school to school but generally here are the guidelines the schools use. JV and Soph games pay 3 man crews $34 to $36 and are 12 minute quarters with regular stop time. Freshman games pay 2 man crews $34 to $36 and are 10 minute quarters with regular stop time. The time is almost always kept on the field so the official with the clock can run time as needed. Mileage is rarely a factor for games close to the TC metro area. However, if a crew has to travel to an outstate game the school may give a bonus for mileage. Regards, AJ [This message has been edited by ajkottke (edited October 13, 1999).] |
In fl. $50.00 game fee for each member and $23.00 for the clock oper.5 man crew is standard for varsity game. we go to a 6 man crew starting with the semi-final rd. of the state playoffs.
|
In Western North Carolina we get $60.00 for a varsity game with no travel. All 5 officials are paid the same. We receive $50.00 for JV games with a 4 man crew.
|
how does $40 for Var. (5 man crew)
$29 for JV (4man crew) $26 for Frosh (3 man) sound to you guys? |
Rookie....You should be getting over forty
dollars for an afternoon game basically because the school or school district should relize that you should be compensated for taking time off from work and also for gas m ileage from to and from the game. Assigners have a difficult time getting good officials to ref. these games. The underclass coaches always seem to scream how bad we are in the afternoons. If the schools would pay a little more, the better officials will show up. Here in So. Cal. the lowest for an afternoon contest is $41.00 for a freshman game. I would imagine the rest of the guys on this board will have higher or lower pay...Larry Gonski |
The varsity level game fee in Georgia is $63 for each member of a 5 man crew. Clock man receives half. Mileage is paid to one official @ .50 per mile.

In the state of Kansas we recieve $60 for a varsity game. The white hat receives the drivers check. For Jv the crew gets 40 for the game, but the white hat receives $45 and the drivers check. Junior High is $30 for the crew and $40 for the white hat, plus the drivers check. They are mostly 4 man crews, but due to shortages of officials we have been forced to use 3 man crews occasionally.

Indiana officials are paid $45 to $50 per varsity game. Lower level games pay from $40 for some jv games down to $25 for large city jr high games. Play-off games pay $50 plus .
$.18 per mile to each official. |
Our game fees here in Suffolk County, Long Island are probably among the best in the country.
$92 - varsity $70 - junior varsity $55.50 - junior high |
Just a follow-up on game fees. Is anyone getting a raise or are in the process of submitting a raise? Thanks, Larry

I AM SADDEN THAT ANY FOOTBALL OFFICIAL AT THE H.S. LEVEL WOULD BE WORRIED ABOUT THE AMMOUNT OF MONEY THEY MAKE ON A FRIDAY OR VARSITY GAME NIGHT. IF YOU ARE NOT DOING IT TO PROMOTE SPORTSMANSHIP AMONG THE PARTICIPANTS,FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME, OR TO GIVE BACK TO THE GAME. PLEASE QUIT NOW YOUR IN IT FOR THE WRONG REASONS.THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND I HOPE THER ARE OTHERS THAT FEEL AS I DO.

Some our fellow officials who are talented, have financial problems at home. I understand where you are coming from and I would do games for peanuts as I can afford it. However some officials can not and with the cost of life going up and the lack of good officials to promote to the next levels, it is necessary to get some kind of raises to help. Larry Gonski

I believe Larry's initial question was just to get a feel on what other officials are paid throughout the country. Yes, there are people who do it for the money and that will never change. Like Larry, I would also officiate football for peanuts, because I love the game. As our season just ended, I can only look forward to next year to do it again. Thanks Bruce

Here in North Dakota we get $50.00 for varsity football games whether it's a nine man game or the AAA level which are the largest schools in the state. Driver gets 50 cents a mile one way, I think....never really paid much attention to mileage. JV games are 25.00.
|
Forgot to add the fact that we do 4 man crews across the state in North Dakota....even in the playoffs. But, we lobbied the high school activities assn. and they've agreed to use 5 man crews in the 4 levels of state title games next year. A start. We'll probably use 5 man crews in our AAA games here in Williston and try to get our high school to pay the 50 for all five. If not we'll chip in 10 a piece and pay the new back judge. Eventually we'll get the fee for the back judge, if not right away. Smaller schools may balk a bit....but everything takes time.

I'm ok with wanting good money..
Here in Kansas the High School Officials get $52 for reg. season 55 for Sub-State and 60 for State But if you officiate any sport you should do it for the experience.. not the money Dustin Burson |
In Kentucky:
Fr/JV: $100/crew (5 man gets $20, 4man gets $25) Varsity: All get $45 Travel expense paid to one official on crew if crew travels more than $25 miles ($.40/mi) Playoffs: 1st round $50, plus travel as above each round goes up $5 |
in arkansas- avg pay 40.00 per man for varsity games. very little travel. JV games are 25.00 per man for 4 man crew. BUT I WOULD DO IY FOR FREE!
