Coach Forfeits on Ref's Call...

Anyone see this yet...?

Coach’s disagreement with ref leads to team walk off, forfeit - Prep Rally - High SchoolBlog - Yahoo! Sports

Not that it matters, but would the score remain 14-0 at the point of the forfeit, or because of the forfeit, is the score 1-0....?

If they're playing by unaltered NFHS rules, if the losing team forfeits the score stands, otherwise the score is 1-0 (8-1).

Looks like they were trailing, so the score would remain.

Glad they suspended the coach.

I like the PA announcement, "Fans, we remind you to show the utmost respect regardless......"

Wonder how he finished that sentence! :)

Jim S Thu Sep 08, 2011 08:42pm

The end of the PA anouncement was "no matter what you may think!"
There were USL's (Two) given to the HC, but not a third. And we did tell the AD that the score stood as posted on the scoreboard.
Great start to the season what?

So what was the call that started all this?

Slow whistle on stopped progress, which "allowed" a fumble. It's in the story.

I knew it was in your area. Were you working, Jim (if you can say)?

See the second sentence of my post... "U"-all.

The coach thought the pink whistles were a distraction

MD Longhorn Fri Sep 09, 2011 10:22am

So ... they started the play clock with the team not yet on the field? If so, why didn't the offense run a play? Should have hit them with delay BEFORE starting the playclock when they refused to come out.

mtridge Fri Sep 09, 2011 12:29pm

why was the coach ejected for delay penalties? Please provide Rulebook reference

Read the thread. The fouls were not delay of game.

I guess we were "pathetic". And this guy MUST know what he's talking about... he once heard that there is a rulebook for sports games.:p

And another one: Garfield parents adamantly support suspended coach | KING5.com Seattle
Too bad these parents don't know what REALLY went on instead of what was said after to try and justify.

Last year, two coaches were forced to resign after playing ineligible players.

This year, the head coach throws a tantrum and refuses to play the game.

Wow. That's a quality football program.

Amen!

The biggest losers are the kids who didn't get to finish the game and have lousy examples set by the coach.

Rich Sun Sep 11, 2011 11:29pm

The same coach would throw a fit if there was an inadvertent whistle.

Our whistles are frequently late. Some plays "end" without a whistle, at least until we find the football.

The coach is a whiner who has found a scapegoat. End of story.

Jmuvol Mon Sep 12, 2011 08:01am

This coach is upset about slow whistles. He would be upset if the whistles were too quick. Terrible show of sportsmanship by the coach. Even worse that the parents are backing him for his tantrum. Wonderful example for the kids.

Even worse that the school hasn't dumped him.

Speaks volumes about the administration.

Fantastic!

One of my first ejections early in my career was a PA who was upset over a slow whistle.

Run up the gut, no whistle as the pile is moving forward. All of a sudden on the PA comes, "Blow the #&#$&$ whistle, dammit!!! You're gonna get my kid hurt you @$$holes..." Ejected the announcer in my 3rd or 4th game ever.

Any relation to the M Crowder who is the AD for the other team on this game?
That would be pushing the co0-incidence level a bit!
