Pointing toward Heaven flagged?

Players penalized for TD tribute to recently departed friend - Prep Rally - High SchoolBlog - Yahoo! Sports

That's when a flag flew in from an official, citing excessive celebration because the players' heavenward point was considered an action that drew attention to themselves.
LOL. I hope the kids point every single damn time.

Not to sound insensitive but i know it will come across that way- As officials do we need to ask the coach in pregame about any unusual circumstances that has occurred that might provoke a reaction like this after a big play. If so what numbers would be allowed to do this so we can make note.

I think the coach needs to handle this stuff. Talk to kids prior to the game and explain the consequences. If someone wants to pay tribute to a fallen teammate like the above play they have from the 25 yard line to the 25 yard line in their team box do whatever they so desire.

I hate seeing the officials blamed for something they are not privy too. We have the rules we enforce the rules.

Tough as it may sound but I can honestly say I dont read pregame articles on schools as to know what is going on in the personal lives of kids.

Just my two cents worth

I really have to agree with Bobo on this. It might not have been the worst thing in the world, but on some level players have to use their heads. Just because you claim you had someone die does not mean that all gestures are going to be seen the same. Hand the officials the ball and get off the field. There would not be penalties if players in previous years did not take these actions too far in the first place. Sorry and the people in the video are dumb as hell if they have never seen a gesture penalized at a game. It happens all the time and every year.

Peace

Flag the late hit in the end zone. And no, he wasn't "going for the ball."

I still would not flag that. there are often contact like that in the EZ on a pass. If that is a flag then we pass on many penalties.

Peace

I agree with Bobo, if the coach can up to me asking for leniency on this. I would ask him what other rule he wants to overlook tonight.
