Hey fellas, before you end up with a really bad egg, take a look at American football as it relates to society. The more you distance yourself from reality, the more you allow your youth to be infected by the culture surrounding the game and the longer you ignore the problems associated with the American football culture the worse it will get.

As posted earlier a great sports model to copy would be of one of our games, which is based on our ancient ball games, called ki-o-rahi. Because the ways Maori here do things culturally in society is reflected in the way we play our sports. Sports reflect society, so rather than dishing out screeds of resistant arguments, and going off track in any way you can (Paton!?), it would be far healthier to openly discuss the games problems so you can be closer to finding solutions. This forum is used to help each other with rule interpretations so why not help each other to make the game better too?

"Prevention is better than the cure"...

as a reminder here is a US report on the situation America is in presently -

Sports as an institution is every bit as powerful in this country as corporate America or the Catholic Church. Yet sports are still considered a sidelight, ancillary to our daily experience. It's still too easy to put on those rose-colored glasses, indulge in Grantland Rice images of the Four Horsemen of Notre Dame and Knute Rockne speeches of winning one for the Gipper. It's too easy to get wrapped up in the supposed character-building elements of it, the false narratives of heroes and come-from-behind glory fed us by newspapers and television networks and cable networks in their ceaseless search for easy emotional aphrodisiacs.

Time to reasess? time for change? I truly hope so for the generations who follow in your footsteps (let us pray...)

and don't forget to keep making those huge profits cause our lawyers (Tamihere and co) will be calling you in about 2 years time for some overdue compensation!

You're a riot!

Taha,

Not sure if you were quoting me correctly on all of the virulent blah blah blah that I apparently was spewing. For your assertion that ki-o-rahi afficianados are so tough, you've sure got a thin skin to be so wimpy.

Also, here in the good ol US of A we have a suggetions for people like you, "go take a powder!"

With your superior intellectual skills and elite wisdom, I'm sure that you will figure out what this means. The sad part is that if you are too intellectually bound, you will probably take no action.

Happy New Year!

tamahairy gone!

great news America that moari fella who was heading the compensation for the moaris obscure ball game claim is gone, lost his electoral seat so hopefuly that will be the end of it. He was pushing the compensation claims real hard apparently because he was going to make 2 or 3 millon as their prime negotiator.

It seems like the US has decided to officially recognise ki-o-rahi through a major physical education initiative in schools across your country called ¡¥Passport to Play¡¦.

Some 7,000,000 of your young minds will be exposed to a totally different cultural sports experience ¡V a healthy one!

So a strong Maori contributing factor to the evolution of rugby and therefore American football will be coming to a school near you soon! So to all of you who ridiculed and denied the benefits of ki-o-rahi, without wanting to listen & learn, with your heads firmly stuck in the sand of ignorance, contact your own education authorities and medical institutions who chose ki-o-rahi to help lift physical education levels in the US and help therefore to eradicate obesity and the negative American Football ideals of cheating/drug taking and false market strategies such as calling the American comp the (wait for it¡K) ¡¥World champs¡¦ when clearly only 1 country is involved!

Sports need to be CLEAN if you want a healthy and committed population, the RIGHT sports can change a nation and put them on the right track to recognising worldviews outside their own and treating others fairly and with respect ¡V SPORTS TRANSPORT CULTURAL VALUES! Hopefully the awesome values intrinsic within ki-o-rahi, and absent in American Football (under its present regime) and many of its followers (going by their insular comments in these posts), will help those Americans who choose to recognise the world outside their borders.

Perhaps your leaders will now take notice and treat the global warming phenomenon seriously and not ignore it, perhaps they will treat their illegal holding of prisoners (in you know where) with more humanitarianism, perhaps destructively globe trotting across the world causing mayhem and destruction in search of oil deposits/control will lessen (we all pray!)¡K.if you partake in sports where respect for the rules and each other is paramount it will eventually influence people in other areas of their lives ¡V including the political! By including ki-o-rahi into your education programme you have taken a big step for mankind.

Your country obviously does have thinkers and doers who are not closeted into blinkered views of the rest of the world and can appreciate the enormous benefits of introducing ki-o-rahi into your borders.

Why do you think your physical educators chose ki-o-rahi over all of our other traditional Maori games and the millions of traditional games worldwide?
¡Kjeez perhaps the game does transport all those benefits, socially and mentally that have been afore mentioned within this post and that your intelligent educationalists/medical experts have researched and unaminously approved..

Now will the detractors of the healthy oriented traditional Maori game KI-O-RAHI appear out of their closets or will they continue with their pantomime of the movie ¡¥Silence of the Lambs¡¦? ¡V because that¡¦s what they remind me of, meek lambs (followers of corrupt/unhealthy sports practices and values) unable to think critically or to comprehend a world where games are CLEAN and societally beneficial.

If Ki-o-Rahi can overcome the lethargy of the general US public, as epitomised by those who profess their lack of creativity and critical thinking as displayed hilariously in these posts, then it will quickly entice the intelligent sportspeople in your country, other sports will suffer a brain drain as a result. When your country is ready we can hold a true world championship with 100% more countries involved than your fictitious American Football world champs.

Children (especially US children!) are the hope and future of our world, let us hope their enthusiasm for ki-o-rahi can overcome the restrictive philosophies of your older entrenched stalwarts who profess that sports should use every marketing ploy to trick and subdue their publics and who continue to treat their players as expendable ¡V thereby role modelling societal dysfunction and destruction.

¡Koh yeah, nearly forgot, to those ostrich heads¡K.I TOLD YOU SO ƒº

Kindest wishes and regards as always,
Taha

PS perhaps both codes could learn from each other. Ki-o-Rahi, as the source, the parent, behind open running and ball handling can reteach the child, the descendant ¡V American Football, healthy core values again and AF could introduce Ki-o-Rahi to the true caring and intelligent Americans who want a world of peace and caring and strong values. But I¡¦m sure there are many more ways that both codes could in combination help create a more caring world and exciting sports cultures.
