Attention Mods/Admin- really inappropriate Spam

on the Off-season resources thread. Needs to be zapped ASAP.

I volunteer to help delete and ban these jokers if you'd like.

Does anyone even moderate this forum since mick passed away. I know Bob doesn't.

HL, maybe you hsould contact Brad and offer your services.

I reported it early this morning. Don't know where the reports go. :(

Is there some way in the software to prevent links and pics for, like the first 10 days of one's existence? That would cut down on spam posts.

I admin'd college sports message board for about 5 years and it had the ability to post limit new members or any member for that matter based on parameters set. This board's format is vBulletin which is similar to what we used.

I'm not sure one could limit the actual content. Something to look into.

I don't think I'd want to get into the moderation between real members' discussion. The back channel whining was one of the things that drove me out of it before. I would be willing to nuke trash like that and the other spam that gets through the filters though.

Hello? Anyone listening?

I started reading the thread. 4 or 5 posts in, i thought the spam people were complaining about was the selling of study guides and having to pay for website memberships. I thought, "Hmm. this doesn't seem so bad."

then I scrolled down a little more.

zoinks.

I had talked with Brad about volunteering to mod this forum and he said he'd let me know. I just sent him another e-mail to follow up with him.

Somebody is spamming all the threads. It's really getting out of hand.

The problem is there is only one active moderator (bob) and he only has the power to delete/edit posts in the basketball and baseball forum. Brad hasn't been on the forums in a bit and he's the only one who has the power to ban posters. Mick had super moderator powers but since his untimely passing, we've been left a void in moderating powers.

We probably need 2-5 posters given mod powers with 2-3 of those given super moderator powers and maybe upgrade bob to admin powers. Heck if we wanted to start banning these spam bots, all one would have to do is go to the testing forum and just ban every poster in there.

I will be happy to mod. With the regular posters and even newer ones, there's very few actual problems, but the spam stuff is getting a bit ridiculous.

I'm not sure if vBulletin offers it but most of these spammers only have one or two posts and its quite obvious from their ID's they are made up. The board I used to admin gave the ability to post limit new posters, not allow posting of links, images, etc, or receive approval before posting.

I too would be willing to at least shut these jerks down.

I believe vBullentin allows all this. Really the main thing I think needs to be done is to get more moderators. As is, this board does not have a moderator besides Brad.
