Here's the scenario. High school ball on a kickoff.

The K team has the kicker setup on the right hash, ball teed up on the 40, in position, waiting for the whistle to blow.

The other 10 players are lined up shoulder to shoulder on 30 yard line adjacent to the left sideline.

The referee blows the whistle and the K team goes for an onside kick from where they were aligned.

Is this legal? Or, do a certain amount of K players need to cross the hash then shift to where they are aligned?

Thanks in advance.

Under NFHS rules, the play is legal.

In TX and Mass. .....

In TX and Mass. HS's it would be illegal as it would be in NCAA also. At least 4 players must be on each side of the kicker when ball is kicked.

In OREGON (We are also an NFHS state)

The NFHS is experimenting (IN OREGON ONLY) with a rule that requires a minimum of 4 players to be on each side of the kicker when the ball is kicked. In the event a holder is used he counts as one of the four players.
Live ball foul - Illegal Procedure - 5 yards

I thought I should answer this in the event the person asking the question happened to be in Oregon and was preparing to jump down some officials throat!
