Back-Handspring Ejection

Not sure if this one has been posted or not (probably has)...

Either way, it's well worth your time.

1st: I think the LJ threw a second USC which resulted in the ejection.

2nd: GReat that the officials were in their coldest weather attire and the head coach on the near side was in shorts. (That was us week 8, black pants, long sleeves, and visiting coaches wore shorts)

The coach gets ejected for this alone.

I immediately discount any football officials I see wearing striped coats. Have never worn one and never will. Neither will any crew I'm the CC of.

I noticed the R's initial position long before I noticed the coat!

According to NOAA, the temp in Boone ranged from 33 to 39 on Nov 5 which was the date of this game. The coach clearly needs his head examined

Funny you said that. I feel the same way. You can buy shirts that do the same thing as a coat. It looks stupid on the field.

Peace

I saw this on another site. It read that the coach mentioned this to the crew during the pre-game conference. The crew told the coach that it would be flagged...and they did it anyway. I believe the coach may have had a first USC on him already...and I believe the "back-flipper in motion" did also.

Already discussed in the middle school trick play thread.

Under the NCHSAA Ejection Policy, "any delayed, excessive or prolonged act by which a player attempts to focus attention upon himself," (9-5-1c) is considered taunting/baiting and results in an ejection. That includes waving the ball at a defender on a TD run or diving into the end zone. The ejection carries a one game suspension.

The coach was also assessed a USC foul because he was told prior to the game that the play was illegal and chose to run it anyway. As he had already been flagged for a player wearing a tinted visor, he was ejected for two USC fouls.

Also, the coach told NCPreps.com that he was misquoted. He said had he known the player would have been ejected, he would not have run the play.

Well, I was in a hurry and those coats are a huge pet peeve of mine. I know some crews that wear them in pregame and that doesn't happen on our crew since we simply don't own any. UnderArmour Cold Gear, yes. Gloves, yes. I've even been known to wear a hood. But a winter coat with stripes on it?

But now that you've made me look again.

My.....God. He's directly behind the QB and about 6-7 yards deep. He clearly doesn't move well on top of that -- a recipe for potential disaster. Then he throws his flag behind himself.

Probably a state final ref.

When an official does something that just looks silly like that, it tells me a lot about them. It tells me that they do not have an attention to detail (rules, mechanics or philosophy). And that they likely are not going to do many other things right if you look that way. Whoever has said that it looks good to wear a jacket? There are many uniform choices to be warm and not wear a jacket.

I guess this is the basketball official in me, I can tell immediately when someone can or cannot officiate by how they look and just see them run up and down the field. I know it is cold, but I do not see anyone at any other level (other than High School......surprise!!!) wearing a jacket on the field. It just looks silly. I do not even need to look at his positioning to tell he looked silly. And when the official started pointing and gyrating, that is all I needed to know at the end of the day.

And you know he might be. But having been one I can tell you that just because you are a State Final official, certainly does not mean you got their purely on talent. There are a lot of factors to getting there and talent is just one of them. And no I am not saying politics, just saying that if you stay around long enough you might be able to get there under the right circumstances.

Peace

We, here in Minnesota do wear stripped jackets in lower level contests. There have been a number of games that I have officiated when the temperature is below 40 with a stiff wind. In a varsity game, it's a no-no but lower level games it is acceptable.

Most of us own them because they are reversible and we wear the black side out during pre-game and at half time on those cold, rainy, and this year extremely windy nights.
