Replay Officials Suspended
Just read this interesting story regarding the San Diego St @ BYU game last week.
Cougar employee one of three suspended for botched BYU-SDSU replay | CollegeFootballTalk.com Apparantly there was a SNAFU in a fumble challenge that was not over ruled by the replay official. The conference suspended all 3 people in the booth for one game for the mistake. It turns out one of the 3 people in the booth is a long time "employee" of BYU. My question for you college football officals who know: Is it common for an employee of the host school or an alumni be in the replay booth and help make rulings? I can see it possible since a home school employee might be familiar with the A/V equiptment being used in their stadium. But from an outsider point of view, it might appear to be a conflict of interest. The assignor in my conference doesn't allow alumni to work conference games of the school that you graduated; non-league games are okay due to travel costs. Just looking for opinons/answers. Thanks. |

The NCAA often uses local personnel for the booth replays. Similar scenario 3 years ago with Oklahoma at Oregon where the replay booth botched TWO areas where an onside kick should have been overturned, and ended up giving Oregon the game.
You'd think they'd learn...
