Mike Pereira working HS football

Officiating for the love of the game - NFL News - FOX Sports on MSN

I like his demeanor on the field. Something to remember when I work those freshman and JV games.

Nice story.

Lucky cats out there get to work 5-man in an underclass game.

We do too, if we're willing to split 4 checks 5 ways. Actually, a few schools that know us are willing to pay for all 5 of us as a way to keep us coming back over and over again. And we do, too.

We work 5 man for JV. Otherwise, we don't work it.

I'd split the pay for 4 with 5, if they'd be up for that. Most occasions (AAYFL youth in WI) teams will pay for 3, but we'll still work with 4. IMO...you can't cover jack squat with 3....even 8th grade kids. Working on making 4 mandatory here soon for this league...let's hope.

Try working a very chippy JV game with three. That is the definition of "not a good time".

I've worked 2 games this season with 3. One middle school as a fill in and a varsity reserve (JV) when the 4th didn't show.

I was the WH on both games and told the other 2 guys we'd go without an umpire and I'd spot the football on every play, if needed. I'd rather not have a sideline left open.

I was beat. The games went well and were easy, but if they had been chippy, it would've been a challenge.

Won't schedule anything HS with 3 though. If a school only hires three, it can be a different three and I'll stay home.

A lot of guys here work R, L, U. I simply don't like that. I'd rather have the two wings.

Tomorrow morning we're working a game at 9AM. At least we have 4. Our alternate WH is taking the game off, so I guess I'm stuck cause nobody else will want to do it.
