Clock Snap/RFP
 

Touchdown play that gets called back for offensive holding. Clock start on RFP or Snap? Only reason we stopped the clock other the penalty was for the score (which got called back).

RFP in my book but seems to be some disagreement.

3-4-3d should clear up your confusion. Snap.

3.4.3d stipulates "the ball becomes dead behind the goal line"

Doesn't a touchdown sound more like "beyond" not behind, I never saw a team score 6 going backwards.

If they wanted the clock to start on the snap regardless of whether a safety/touchdown why wouldn't 3.4.3d read "the ball becomes deal in the endzone" instead of restricting to "behind" the goal line?

The NFHS isn't exactly known for using proper meanings. They said on a test this year (and in the rule book) that the hashmarks bisect the yardlines, after all. The hashmarks trisect the yardline and it's the yardline that actually bisects the hashmarks, but I've grown to expect nothing less from the NFHS.

Regardless, a score is a major clock stopper and even if the play comes back we start/stop the clock (with few exceptions) based on the result of the play, not because of the penalty (even though there's an official timeout to administer the penalty). The clock starts on the snap.
