I don't know why but Honig's regular ball flags (not long toss) are all too light. I bought a plain yellow one this season in hopes that it would be heavier and it wasn't. Any bit of wind will catch the flag and carry it around.

I took Rich's suggestion and taped it up with black electrical tape and now the weight is just right.

Rich, any suggestions for applying the tape? It was nice and taught at first but has started to loosen up some.

Layers. And once it starts coming off, reapply it from scratch. I think I tried using long pieces of tape and just went around the ball end as many times as I could before cutting the tape.

I must've gotten lucky, because I applied the last layer around Week 8 of the season last year and I've used that flag for about 10 games this season so far and it's still in great shape.

I agree with Honig's flags -- even their long toss flag is inadequate, IMO. And I'm mainly a white hat, who rarely has to launch one.

Why not find some yellow tape to cover the flag if what color the flag is does not matter?

Peace

I tried taping up the weight on my flag last week right before a game and I thought it looked really sloppy.
What silly practice. Everyone knows we have flags. It's no secret. There's no need to hide them.

Oh good grief

This might be the silliest conversation on here since the A11 debates. The Honig's long toss flag (F71L) is my flag of choice as it is very heavy- easy to throw 20+ yards as necessary for those spot fouls.

Tape, don't tape, hide, don't hide, let's get back to some more helpful sharing of information!

Had a partner with one of those once. Boy, when a facemask or personal foul made you mad, you could sure take it out on the offender with this flag. Like getting hit with a bag of ball bearings! He threw it straight up on a foul at the snap once and took it on the head - and we never saw it again.

Beat me to it Rich.

Stay tuned for my new installment next week on beanbags...long and skinny, short and wide, blue or white.

Skinny, blue. 1 (as the WH). Black tape on the flag. I don't care that it's hidden, but it's a side effect of the tape.
