NFL Replay.....After a Violation
Anyone see the bizarre replay situation in the Redskins/Cowboys Game yesterday. Took about 10 minutes. Coaches on the field, players confused, etc.
Redskins were on offense and ran a play inside two minutes. There was a problem on the field (I think it was a ball spot location) and the booth was saying this should be reviewed. The Redskins come to the line. TWEET. Delay of game violation against the Redskins. They get moved back five yards. Redskins again come to the line. TWEET. The previous play is NOW under review. So, now they're reviewing a play after a penalty has already been given.... Zorn and Phillips are  as well as everyone else. The officials determine, apparently by rule, since another "play" didn't occur, they could nullify the penalty, give the Redskins their lost five yards back, and then re-spot the ball where it should have been previously. The Cowboys bench went crazy (meaning Phillips actually showed a smidge of emotion).....of course, in the long run, it didn't matter. Skins are horrible..... |
Yes.......that was a confusing interlude.
It was clear to change the play on the field...........but I didn't understand why they removed the "delay of game" penalty. Crazier than that........according to the TV guys......the league office called and told them to remove the delay of game penalty during the process. So why take off the delay penalty? |
