2. What are the negatives of crews for high school associations?
You don't get the opportunity to learn what others are doing, or to help others grow and improve. But some of that is offset by switching officials around for JV games.

3. What are the criteria used for selecting crews?
Our booking agent usually makes that decision, although he does usually consult with the white hat.

4. If coaches are allowed to "scratch" officials in your area, how does this impact crew assignments?
They are allowed to scratch three officials each season. Scratch three guys from the same crew and you're d@mn likely to see the other two guys somewhere before the season is over. Although our crew has talked about scratching a coach if he marked off a member of our crew, we have since changed that thinking, since it maybe the coach's intent to get rid of the entire crew.

5. What is the best way to initiate a crew assignment system?
How about a draft?

Overall, I really do think the crew system is the way to go. We use it in football and basketball. I've worked a couple of "big" games with other crews and just didn't enjoy it as much as i did with my regular crew.
