FSU/North Carolina Replay

Did anyone see the interception on UNC's desperation drive at the end of the game last night? With about 12 seconds to play, FSU appeared to intercept and run it back for a TD, but the LJ ruled that the ball hit the ground. The play was reviewed, and on replay, it appeared to me like the FSU DB got his hands under the ball. It was very close, but every angle they showed, I thought it was an interception.

The white hat came off the headphones and said that the call stood. I was curious as to whether it stood because there was not enough evidence to overturn it or because the LJ whistled it dead and ruled incomplete. Does anyone know if replay would allow FSU to keep the ball at the spot of the pick(not getting the return for a TD because of the whistle) if replay had shown it was caught?

Replay stood because video was inconclusive. I do not know if FSU gets the ball had the call been reversed. I would assume so, otherwise there's no need for the review.

Yes they would have got to keep the ball.

In NCAA games, if the R says, "the call is confirmed" that means video evidence was conclusive that the call on the field was correct.

If the R says, "the call stands" that means there was no video evidence to reverse the ruling.

When the call is reversed, the R is required by rule to explain things further including what the reversal is and what impact on the next play it will have.

See 12-6 in the NCAA Rules Book.

It was the NC player who had his hands under the ball. But this is the kind of call replay is for. Definitive indisputable video evidence of a mistake. FSU won the game by making that pick and NC shouldn't have had another change. Somebody going to post video?

The video official for the game disagrees with you.
