Playing Up

A little non-officiating related, but I wonder if anyone noticed that NAIA #1 Sioux Falls beat NCAA Div 1 FCS North Dakota yesterday. Someone remarked this is equivalent to someone like Mt. Union (NCAA Div III) playing against someone from the FCS or even the BCS. And we thought the FCS teams upsetting the BCS teams was eye-opening.

This really isn't a big deal. D-III teams play FCS teams all the time. Many FCS teams aren't very good. It isn't that uncommon for the D-III team to win.

You're probably referring to D-III teams playing non-scholarship FCS teams (aka Ivy League). This was a NAIA school playing a fully-scholarshiped FCS team. I was just reading the Sioux Falls paper online this morning, and the Sioux Falls coach said he got about 5 dozen text messages from other coaches in the NAIA and lower NCAA divisions thanking him for knocking off North Dakota and telling people that NAIA doesn't mean "No Actual Intercollegiate Athletes".
