Personal Foul - Unsportsmanlike
 

Are we allowed to assess a personal foul and classify it as unsportsmanlike as well? Say a player commits a personal foul that was cheap and unsportsmanlike, but not quite an ejectable offense. Can we call it a Personal Foul - Unsportsmanlike (15 yards only) and write it down so if the player gets another unsportsmanlike, he is ejected?

No: PF is a contact foul, USC is a non-contact foul.

No, you can't make a PF anything but a PF. You can however, eject a player for any single USC foul YOU consider flagrant.

USC are alwaus non-contact fouls. While PFs are of the contact variety.

A player can be ejected for either a flagrant PF or flagrant USC (9-5 PENALTY).

I think ajmc was pointing out the later to make a case that there was no need to try to put a round PF peg into a square USC hole.

So, if someone cheap-shots another player well behind the play 4 times in one game, that person will not be ejected if none of those hits were flagrant? ...that doesn't seem right.

The 2d time he does that you might call it flagrant and eject, but by the 3d time he does it, seems pretty clear cut it is flagrant. Eject. And if you have not ejected him after the 4th time.....go ahead and eject yourself cause you are not in the game.

Reminds me of Mark Twain's dictum: you can make a mistake only once; after that it's a bad habit.

Look at the definition of a flagrant foul. The cumulation of fouls can result in a flagrant as well.
