Where to enforce from

1st and 10 for A on their 30. QB drops back to pass and is facemasked (15 yd) at the 23. QB keeps running and completes a pass to the 50 where the receiver is tackled at the B45.

Would this facemask, if accepted, be enforced from the previous spot (since it occurred during a loose ball play) or would it be enforced from the end of the run at the B45?

I'm thinking previous spot, but I'm doubting myself.

Thanks!

Quit doubting yourself.

Right answer, right reason (2-33-1d for why the foul occurred during a loose ball play; 2-41-1 for previous spot enforcement).

Even if you didn't know the loose ball play enforcement in Fed, it should be easy to eliminate from consideration "the end of the run at the B45", because the foul occurred during a previous run. If Fed didn't have loose ball play enforcement, the spot would've been where the QB unloaded the ball from. One way or another, they're taking the result of the play.

So let's make it a little more interesting. What if the pass originated from the A 32 yard line?

Foul for illegal forward pass. Double foul, offset and replay the down.
