IHSA high school rules question?

Do the fresh/soph and varsity teams need to have straps on their mouthguards. Is this a rule, that the mouthguard must have a strap connecting it to the helmet? Any help appreciated. If so can someone please give me the rule that pertains to this instance?

There is nothing in the NFHS Rules Book that states anything about a strap on a mouthguard.

I figured it would not say anything about it in the rule book. Thanks. I knew it was a coaching decision, but had to check... Glad I bought new mouthguards for my son today...

Illinois high school officials chime in?

Any Illinois officials want to chime in?

The ruling you were given is correct. This is not an Illinois rule BTW. ;)

Peace

If it comes with a strap, it can't be cut off but if you buy a mouthpiece that has no strap it is legal.

Sure it can. Cutting off the strap is not altering the mouthpiece to "decrease protection."
