That was a first for me.

Looked like righteous calls to me. One we have talked about in other forums but probably most of us have never seen.

Did two different officials have different calls? I saw two officials discussing with the R.

It was one of those plays where you could flag either, or neither, but not just one.

All always thought that if neither had an advanage, you should pass on the call. Is this not correct?

In this case I think two officials saw two different things (two different angles) and they did what they ought to have done, replay it. Yeah, it looks funny, but it's reassuring to know that one ref didn't influence the other's decision.

I didn't see the play but it's reasonable to assume both players committed PI penalties on the same play. Since restrictions begin against A at the snap, the receiver could block the defender before the ball is thrown to gain separation...flag 1. The defender recovers and the ball is underthrown with the defender making contact and no attempt to play the ball...flag 2. It's not common, but it is entirely possible.

This is a great example of why you should always throw your flag when you see a penalty. Don't be lazy and hold it back just because another official flagged it. It might not be the same thing!

The local joke up here is when you suspect a newbie of throwing a backup flag, to report to the R that you had nothing - it was a bad flag. Then the R asks what the newbie had. With any luck, his sense of fair play overtakes his ability to say "I had nothing as well." :D :eek:

Whenever I see a rookie throw a "me too" flag I go to them first to ask what they have! As they begin to stammer I take that opportunity to attack like a vicious hyena, I mean teach him the correct way.
