Referee Pants

Does anyone know where you can purchase the black pants with the white stripes?

mbyron Tue Dec 02, 2008 03:25pm

Yes, get hired as an NFL official, and they'll give you some plus the opportunity to buy extras.

SethPDX Tue Dec 02, 2008 04:11pm

You get a nice hat and some shirts, too. :)

waltjp Tue Dec 02, 2008 04:16pm

FYI - the white stripe does not go all the way down.

Those aren't the same as the NFL pants. The NFL pant's fabric is closer to the knicker-style fabric and has a belted waist band.

Texas Aggie Tue Dec 02, 2008 11:47pm

It isn't "closer to," it IS the same knicker fabric of the Honigs elite knickers. It isn't, contrary to popular belief, sweat-suit like material.

waltjp Wed Dec 03, 2008 12:02am

I make no claim for the material. I simply supplied a link for black pants with a white stripe.

my3sons Wed Dec 03, 2008 11:49am

Thank you for the info.

In our state they have allowed the plain black pants. Most of the ones that have been purchased have no belt loops and the guys have had trouble because of that.

I wish, if they are going to allow black pants, that they set some guidelines as to when they are used. I have worked conditions where I almost wore short sleeves and the guys wanted to wear the black pants.

If we are going to use black pants in FED ball, I'd like to see the white stripe required, so they have some semblance of a uniform and not look like a flag football ref.

My requirement is a belt loop that holds my normal belt. Otherwise, my crew would never wear black pants.

Amen, brother!

Black Pants for Football Officials

You can purchase black pants for football officials from Gerry Davis Sports (Appleton, Wisconsin). Although they do not have the information up on their web site yet (they are a brand new product) they will soon. They have belt loops for a standard football officials belt, white stripe that runs the length of the pants, they come in even waist sizes 30 to 50, they have an expansion waistband – located on both sides of the pants - which allows the official to adjust the waist according to the amount of layers of clothing they are wearing, two front pockets, two back pockets; one with a buttoned flap and an additional, smaller front pocket designed for placement of your penalty flag. Their web site is www.gerrydavis.com; their phone number is 800.916.9088. If you send them an e-mail they can send you pictures of the pants so you can see what they look like before you order them.

Hope this helps!

I agree with Jim D :)

From 4 years ago, I wonder how many officials still think these are clown pants? :D

HLin NC Sun Jul 21, 2013 01:10pm

I admit, I was wrong.:o

I could still live without the white stripe. My plan was a tapered pant, much like the modern baseball pant, instead of the dress slack style.

Rich Sun Jul 21, 2013 03:44pm

4 years later, I see knickers as clown pants.

As in, "Why are those clowns still wearing knickers?"

JRutledge Mon Jul 22, 2013 12:40am

I agree Rich. ;)

Peace

I'm shocked -- shocked, I say -- when I watch Classic College Football games & see D-1 officials wearing knickers!

Forksref Sun Jul 28, 2013 05:35pm

Until the white stripe came in, I thought the plain black pants made guys look like they were doing flag football or a coach coming on the field to do a JH game. With the stripe, now they look like a real uniform.

BktBallRef Mon Jul 29, 2013 06:44pm

I like the white stripe. I just wish it would stay white.

Are any other states, beside NC, going to the shorts with the white stripe?

Huh? Keep that down in your flatlander country. No mention of it here.

asdf Tue Jul 30, 2013 08:45am

I saw where Ohio is allowing shorts for August and September games, however they are using plain black shorts....no stripe.

They also must have belt loops and wear a belt (to keep the Nike basketball pants off the field). And my varsity crew will NOT be wearing shorts! I really was shocked when I saw the announcement that we could wear shorts and do not expect many crews to don them.

BktBallRef Sun Aug 04, 2013 04:39pm

Tom, we only wear shorts for sub varsity. It's still very hot here through the end of September.

Evidently Chapel Hill has okayed them because that's what our new RSO has chosen for us to wear.
