Point of Attack???

Where exactly is the "point of attack"? Is there a different PoA for running plays vs pass plays?

Thanks

The point of attack usually refers to whatever way is the play going... Left, Right, Up the Middle.

On a pass play, you could have multiple points of attack, on the line (around the QB) as well as downfield (where the ball is thrown).

Watching the guards will tell you PoA if you're a U. A deep guy or a wing should be able to give some input asto how they identify the PoA on pass plays.

I was always told that the point of attack is where the ball-carrier hits the defense. This need not be the way the "play" or the rest of the offense is flowing.

Of course, since this is a coaching term, it is not defined in the rule book.
