Hi guys,

Wondering what other areas are getting for Varsity and Sub Varsity football games. We are usually at $45 or $ 50 for Varsity and $35-$40 for JV. This seems to be pretty thin these days with costs of gas, uniforms, registration fees, etc. Not to mention we live in quite a rural area with trips of 50 miles plus not that uncommon. Mileage is spotty and depends on the school. I am not in this for the money, but I kind of think it is insulting to have to be trained and properly equipped for something and earn a net wage of less then minimum wage after travel time and expenses.

Any thoughts on other sports (volleyball, basketball, baseball, etc) would be appreciated as well.

Thanks in advance,

Dale

The scale for pay varies from one conference to another so drastically. I do not know if I even know all the variations. And it is constantly changing.

Peace

In my area of Kansas each league sets its own rates. For football we get between $50 and $65 for a varsity game. JV is between $35 and $55.

In ND, the state sets the maximum allowed:

FB: V= 64, JV= 41, 9th=34.50, JHS= 23.50

Mileage = 45 cents/mile for the driver (usually the R)

FHSAA allows a maximum of $60 per field official for Varisty and $46 for JV and Freshman levels. We also get around $10 or more for travel fees depending on the distances.
I noticed that this year we seem to have more new "trainees" than in any of the previous 6 years since I've been down here. Could be the economy is drawing more ??

Using:-
1 UK gallon = 1.2 US gallons
£1 = $1.92

Here in the UK, game fee is £40 (that's about $76.80).
The official pays his own travel for the first 100 miles round-trip. Standard fee of £0.23 a mile after that.

My average travel distance over the season (and I'm lucky as I live just outside London where we have a few teams) is probably about 80-90 miles per game.
Some of our officials who live in the North of the UK where there are fewer offcials and fewer teams might be on the road for 2-3 hours each way to cover a game.

My van does 30-35 miles to the UK gallon, gas prices in the UK currently about £5.40 a UK gallon, that's about $9.00 a US gallon.

Tomorrow, I'm scheduled to drive to the South of London to assess a crew down there. It is about a 100 mile round-trip. I'll get a £40 fee but likely spend £17 in gas to get there and back.

In Ohio we earn approximately 55 Varsity and 35 JV 30-9th and below with no travel expenses paid.

I only wish they paid us close to what they pay the police officers hired for security.

Be thankful that they pay the security well.
