It breaks down the rules in plain English and helps fill in the blanks on tricky situations. It also has a comprehensive set of quiz questions for each section of the rule book. You should spend the money and get this year's, it is well worth it in my opinion and it is less than a game fee.

For what it's worth. I haven't been exposed to "The Redding" guide in this area (Upstate NY) until seeing frequent reference to it on multiple officiating forums.

Someone finally mentioned the web site, and I thought I'd take a better look. I just received my copy (NFHS level) have started going through it and am favorably impressed. Similar to the "Officiating Guide" available from NASO, it presents the information in a very readable format combining rules, Case Book plays, diagrams and philosophies together, rather than in separate sections, or separate publications.

It certainly will not replace Rule Book review, but presents the understanding of thse rules in a comprehensive format.

It's a substantial book, letter size containg 216 pages, pre-holed for a 3 ring binder, total cost $21.25 ($15.00+$6.25 shipping) and is sent UPS. I'm only through the 2nd chapter, but have scanned the entire book and would recommend it as a learning aid. It seems to be a Rule Book, Case Book, Illustrated Guide and Officials Manual combined to address the functionality of the game. Thus far, I think it's money well spent.

The Reddings guide is so much easier to read than the rule book. I found my understanding of the rules and my interest in studying them greatly increased when I started ordering the book. I also get the NFHS Rules By Topic via Referee Magazine. Its smaller but I would recommend it also.
