Anybody watch Varsity Inc on ESPN2 last night?

They showed a highlight of a TD score where the runners helmet came off about the 3 yard line. The highlight made it look like the officials let the play go for a TD.

Of course, this could be TV, and the officials did blow it dead, then the editors went to work.

What's Varsity, Inc. and would you blow the ball dead three yards from the EZ? On 3rd and goal? On 4th and goal?

Varsity Inc is a show about the West Monroe Rebels and their season. It airs on ESPN.

And if the runner had no helmet, yes I would blow it dead, no matter how far from the goal.

Absolutely! This rule should be followed to the letter from both a safety and liability standpoint.

There was a case of a varsity football player here that caught a pass over the middle, had his helmet taken off by a defensive player attempting to make a tackle and then was hit in the head by another defensive player's helmet in the course of a second or two. The unprotected player seized on the field and nearly died.
