Exclamation Face Shields

What are the NCAA 2007 rules in regards to colored face shields. While watching the LSU-Auburn game I noticed a defensive player on LSU wearing a darkened face shield. I believe this is illegal. The Auburn coaches questioned the officials but the player continued to play the entire game with the dark face shield. Is this going to be an issue later after the bowl game if LSU wins?

Yeah the NCAA will make the forfeit to Auburn and take away their trophy.

Actually, the player changed to a clear shield at halftime. I'm not sure why he was allowed to slide in the first half though.

Did not see any change at the game in the second half. Player played with darkened shield then too. I was told by allumni that player had pink eye he thought. If forfiet is coming why let them play in championship game?

NCAA rules

From 2007 rulebook -
Quote:
Eye shields that are not clear or made from molded or rigid material.
Note: No player wearing illegal equipment shall be permitted to play. If
illegal equipment is discovered by an official, the team shall be charged a
team timeout. VIOLATION—Rules 3-3-6 and 3-4-2-b-2 [S23, S3 or S21].

It's all part of a vast conspiracy to get the crystal football to Ohio State.

The reason for the shield was an eye injury from the week before when the player's helmet was pulled down into his eyes. Apparently it caused some sort of photosensitivity and yes, he was wearing a clear shield in the second half.
