NF - enforcement of defensive holding
This happened in a state finals game yesterday in Michigan. 3rd and goal from B's 6YL. A1 drops back to pass and is sacked at the 14YL. During the play, A80 was held in the EZ. The officials marked half the distance from the previous spot and replayed the down (3rd and goal from the 3YL). Incorrect, right? Should be 3rd and goal from the 7YL? Thanks......

Yes you are correct (but the crew was not correct).
This is a running play by rule definition. The ball should be tacked on to the end of the run, not the previous spot. In many cases this does not seem that it makes sense, but it is no different than a facemask penatly on a sack.
Peace

admin from end of run
I saw this play on tv also and thought immediately that it was administered incorrectly. I did have to get my books out to make sure because it seemed so strange. But running play with a live ball foul on "B" is administered from end of run.

Canadian Ruling
Quote:
1D/G @ B-3. Foul is ˝ distance from the Previous Line of Scrimmage (PLS). Since the GL was reached when not restricted, award AFD. Fed is 3D/G @ B-7. Vastly different.
