Taping Cleats and wearing shoe covers.. Illegal or not?

Hey there fellas...

Just had a question...

We're out in Northern California and we're told that taped cleats and shoe covers (spat wraps) are not allowed.

I had a ref tell one of my kids to pull the tape off... he had the "traditional" ankle wrap...

Legal or not?

thanx in advance

There's nothing in the rules prohibiting spats or taped ankles. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do on game day if an official requests that you remove these items.

that's totally over officious if you ask a player to remove ankle supporting tape.

My question is, what advantage would a player gain by doing this? Absolutely none, so let it be.

The answer I received was that "the shoe covers are made of nylon and could cause a "burn" when tackling the player wearing them"

WOW! lol.. jerseys and football pants are made of nylon and/or contain plenty of nylon... are we gonna have to go cotton!

But yeah I see no problem or added advantage in wearing spats or even taping shoes / ankles.
