scrimmage kick play
 

Almost happened in college JV game 2nt and I thought it might make a good question. There was no whistle before the K player was downed in our play, but it is better for discussion if we have one.

4-20 at K's 20. Scrimmage kick is into the wind is bad and bounces back behind the LOS about 12 yards. A K player pick it up runs 2 yards before an official blows his whistle thinking K cannot advance the scrimmage kick.

What do you have?

Let the new guys have first shot at it.

In NFHS I have a do over, because K had posession of the ball at the whistle, and could have legally advanced it. They are not going to accept the result of the play which is R getting the ball 1 & 10 @ B's 10. So the only remaining option is to replay the down.

Don't know about the NCAA enforcement though.

Inadvertant whistle. K will obviously elect to replay the down.

You state that it bounces back behind the line of scrimmage. Did the kick ever pass the LOS? I'm trying to visualize this.
